Care-Experienced Young People
At South Bank Colleges, if you are a Looked After Child (LAC) or a Care Leaver, support is in place to keep you safe and ensure you have the same opportunities as all other students.
Throughout the academic year you will have Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings to support your education and future goals. These meetings may include you, your carers, your social worker, virtual school advisor, college staff and other professionals. The purpose is to review your progress, discuss your mid- and long-term plans, identify what is working well, and explore any support you may need.
Care experienced students aged 16 - 18 can apply for our Vulnerable Bursary Fund, which offers financial assistance towards travel costs and support for essential study equipment and kits, as needed. You are also eligible for free lunches on the days you are at college.
We are dedicated to helping every Looked After Child and Care Leaver achieve the highest possible standards, whether that means progressing in further education, higher education, or their chosen career path. We will work in partnership with carers, social workers, and external professionals, as well as college staff, to provide appropriate in-house referrals and support.
We have dedicated members of staff to support you right through from enrolment and all the way through your journey with us as a student.
