At South Bank College, we believe that real-world experience is a powerful part of learning. Our students benefit enormously when they are able to step out of the classroom and see how the knowledge they are building translates into genuine impact.

One of our students, Mohammed Molavi, took part in an exciting four-day placement with Elevate, working alongside their design team. This opportunity gave him a first-hand look at the challenges and opportunities facing engineers in sustainable infrastructure.

From exploring engineering design processes to learning how professionals approach heat networks, decarbonisation and energy modelling, Mohammed gained valuable insight into what it means to engineer for a low carbon future. He finished his placement by presenting a tailored CAD plan of his classroom, complete with lighting, power outlets, fire alarms and radiators. His attention to detail and ability to provide a clear analysis of the heat loss and requirements for the space left a lasting impression on the Elevate team.

The experience not only allowed Mohammed to apply his technical skills in a professional setting but also highlighted the creativity, focus and fresh thinking that young engineers bring to the sector. His placement is a brilliant example of why investing in future talent is so important.

We would like to extend our thanks to Donna Webster and the Elevate team for organising such a meaningful experience, and congratulations to Mohammed for embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm. We are excited to see how his journey in engineering develops from here.

Work experience placements like these are more than just an addition to a CV. They are stepping stones to a career that can help shape a more sustainable world.
