For many adults arriving in the UK, mastering English is one of the first and most important steps toward feeling at home and achieving their goals. For Rosa, studying on the Adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme at Lambeth College has been a life-changing experience.
Rosa joined the college’s Brixton Hill Campus determined to improve her English skills and build confidence in speaking and listening. Through her hard work and the support of her teachers, Rosa recently passed both the International ESOL SELT B1 (Speaking & Listening) exam and the Life in the UK Test—both on her first attempt.
Reflecting on her journey, Rosa shared:
“Thanks to the English lessons I have been attending, I successfully passed my B1 exam on my first attempt. The roleplay exercises we practised in class were instrumental in helping me achieve this result.”
She went on to say how much she valued the professionalism and motivation of her teacher, explaining that the lessons were always delivered with energy and care.
“The teaching style was very dynamic and engaging. I always received constant feedback that helped me understand both what I was improving on and where I needed to develop further. That made me feel supported and confident to keep learning.”
Rosa also praised the inclusion of cultural and historical topics in her ESOL course, particularly lessons on British history.
“I found the British history lessons so interesting and helpful. They motivated me a lot and gave me a better understanding of the country where I now live. I believe they would be of great value for other students preparing for their citizenship exams too.”
Passing both the English and citizenship tests marks a major milestone for Rosa and her family.
“This achievement means a great deal to me and my family. It has strengthened my commitment to remain focused on my studies and to continue improving until I have mastered the English language.”
Rosa’s story is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication, community support, and high-quality teaching. Everyone at South Bank Colleges is proud of her achievements and the inspiration she provides to other learners pursuing their own language and life goals.
