Technical staff from across the LSBU Group recently came together for the second annual Technician Away Day, an event designed to celebrate innovation, encourage collaboration, and strengthen connections between colleagues working across a wide range of specialist disciplines.

Hosted under the theme of Collaboration and Innovation, the event brought together technicians from across the Group to share expertise, explore new ideas, and learn from one another through a programme of presentations, workshops and interactive activities.

South Bank Colleges was represented by Ibrahim Mussa, Technician for Engineering, and Anita, Technician for Film and TV, who joined colleagues from across the LSBU Group for a day focused on professional development, networking and knowledge sharing.

The event opened with a welcome from Dr Julia Warrener, Chair of the Technician Commitment Steering Group, who highlighted the important role technicians play in supporting teaching, learning, research and innovation. Colleagues also welcomed representatives from the London and South East Technician Commitment Network, further strengthening collaboration beyond the LSBU Group.

Throughout the day, technicians took part in a variety of activities designed to encourage teamwork and creative thinking. Presentations showcased innovative projects and examples of cross team collaboration, while interactive workshops provided opportunities to discuss challenges, exchange ideas and identify areas for future partnership.

A dedicated showcase session allowed technicians to explore work taking place across different departments and disciplines, helping colleagues gain a broader understanding of the expertise and specialist knowledge that exists throughout the Group.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding contributions from technical staff and celebrating the dedication, creativity and professionalism that technicians bring to their roles every day.
