On Tuesday 13th May, South Bank Colleges’ Brixton Campus was buzzing with ambition and opportunity as it played host to the Lambeth Care Jobs Fair, a dynamic event aimed at connecting local talent with vital careers in the care sector.
Run in partnership with Lambeth Council, the Health and Care Jobs Hub, and London South East ICS, the fair was a joint initiative that exemplified the power of collaboration. It brought together nine care sector employers and a range of training and support providers—including organisations like Flourish, who offer e-learning programmes designed specifically for care workers.
The event attracted over 100 attendees, including 60+ local residents via Lambeth Council and more than 40 South Bank Colleges students from ESOL, Health Care, and Entry to Employment courses. Attendees had the chance to speak directly with employers, ask questions, explore vacancies, and gain a deeper understanding of the many pathways into care work.
With the UK’s ageing population and a growing demand for social care professionals, the sector is more important than ever. This fair played a vital role in reshaping perceptions of care work—not as a stopgap job, but as a skilled, compassionate, and essential profession with room for growth and personal impact.
The event was a cross-departmental triumph at South Bank Colleges, led by the Director of Essential Skills and the Curriculum Head of Entry to Employment, with essential support from the Head of Health and placement specialist colleagues. Their teamwork ensured the day ran smoothly and effectively showcased the sector's opportunities to a diverse and enthusiastic audience.
Whether attendees were ready to apply on the spot or just starting to explore career ideas, the Care Jobs Fair served as an inspiring and informative experience—one that underlined the college’s commitment to supporting real-world employment outcomes for its students and the wider community.
