We were delighted to welcome Howard Dawber and colleagues from the Greater London Authority (GLA) to London South Bank Technical College in Nine Elms. The visit was an opportunity to showcase how South Bank Colleges, as part of the LSBU Group, are contributing to London’s Growth Plan by preparing our students for the capital’s future skills needs.
Our Executive Principal Fiona Morey OBE and College Principal Wayne Wright hosted the visit, offering a tour of our state-of-the-art technical campus. They were proud to share how our courses, apprenticeships, and industry partnerships are aligned to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s, and London Councils' Growth Plan, published earlier this year.
From STEM subjects including construction, dentistry, games design, and film and TV, to green skills and sustainability-focused courses, our curriculum is designed to meet both the needs of our students and the future economy. The visit was a brilliant opportunity for the GLA team to see our students and staff in action — bringing learning to life in our industry-grade facilities.
A highlight of the visit was meeting our apprentices, including those balancing work, study, and even teaching roles. Special mention was given to Hannah, a plumbing, solar heating, and heat pump installation apprentice, showcasing the breadth of technical skills being nurtured on campus.
We were also pleased to highlight our partnership with Lee Marley Group, one of the UK’s leading brickwork and construction companies. Their collaboration with the college is providing vital opportunities for our students, including apprenticeships, work placements, and input into course content, ensuring what we teach remains industry relevant.
The visit reinforced how South Bank Colleges and the wider LSBU Group are playing an important role in delivering the capital’s Inclusive Talent Strategy, supporting Londoners into good jobs, and helping businesses to access the skilled workforce they need to grow.
We would like to thank Howard Dawber, his team, and all our partners who joined us on the day. It was a fantastic chance to celebrate the work of our students, staff, and industry partners in shaping London’s future talent pipeline.
